HOLE PERSISTING AFTER TOOTH BEING PULLED OUT....???Its perhaps a DRY SOCKET!!
Most of the times ,a day or two following a extraction might be painful.That is so NORMAL.But if the pain becomes intense and doesn't seem to go away,Its high time to report back your DENTIST......you are probably experiencing a condition called DRY SOCKET!!!!!!
ARE YOU WONDERING.......
----->WHAT IS IT?
Pulling a tooth out leaves a hole exposing bone and nerve endings in the place of tooth at that time .Normally a blood clot forms at that hole minutes after protecting the underlying bone and nerve endings and also serves as a foundation for further growth of bone and soft tissue occupying the hole.SOMETIMES,the clot dislodges or dissolves in couple of days leading to exposure of bone and nerves to air,food and germs.That's when one experiences intense pain and THAT IS DRY SOCKET !
------>AM I GONNA GET IT ??
You may if you are one among the people who
- smoke
- are diabetic
- use birth controls
- have poor oral hygiene
- had greater than usual trauma during that surgery
- have previous history of dry socket
and most commonly who neglect dentists instruction of spitting and drinking through a straw on the day of extraction.
------>WHEN DO I HAVE TO WORRY DAT IT IS?
You will have pain typically starting from 2-4th day.You may see a dry hole at that site and instead of dark red clot you can see whitish bone.The hole and the pain persists for days after,Sometimes it may covered by food debris.Over time,the pain may become more severe and radiate to ear on the same side
------->WHAT IS THE TREATMENT?
Over the counter pills doesnt work much in this case.But, Fortunately dry socket is easily treatable.Your dentist will clean the hole and fill it with medicated dressing to promote healing.You may have to come back to dentists office everyday until the pain reduces and healing starts.At home,you have to take up the prescribed antibiotics and mouth wash every day during the treatment.
------->CAN I PREVENT?
Yes,do not smoke!!clearly inform your dentist about your medical history including birth control pills.Dont swish or rinse on the day of extraction.Dont drink through straw
