Bleeding gums
Bleeding from the gums is mainly due to inadequate plaque removal from teeth at the gum line. This will lead to a condition called gingivitis or swollen gums. If plaque is not removed through regular brushing and dental appointments, it will harden to what is known as tartar.
Ultimately it will lead to increased bleeding and more advanced form of gum and jaw bone disease known as periodontitis.
SYMPTOMS
When you check your mouth see if you have any of these
1. Gums are red, soft, puffy or swollen
2. Gums bleeding during brushing or flossing
3. Teeth look longer because of gums going down
4. Gums separating or pulling away from teeth
5. Teeth shifting or loosing
6. Changes in the way you usually bite
7. Constant bad breath or a bad taste in the mouth
8. Salty taste or visible pus coming out between teeth and gums
COMMON CAUSES FOR BLEEDING
1. Gingivitis and inadequate plaque cleaning
2. Moderate to severe gum problems
3. Use of hard bristle Toothbrush and forceful brushing or flossing
4. Infection which can be tooth or gum related
5. Chemical irritants like aspirin
6. leukemia
7. Placement of new dentures
8. Teething in babies and children
9. Pregnancy or any blood thinning medications
10. Lack of Vitamins, Vitamin K or C or any medical problems like anaemia that interfere with the resorption of such vitamins.
