WHY PAIN OCCURS IN MY ROOT CANAL TREATED TOOTH???

WHY PAIN OCCURS AFTER ROOT CANAL TREATMENT??

Root canal treatment is removal of the entire infected nerve portion inside the tooth, even after this it is normal to feel pain in the area for a few days after the treatment. This occurs as a result of a natural healing process.

GUIDELINES FOR POST TREATMENT CARE:

  • Intake antibiotic and pain killer correctly as prescribed by dentist
  • Do not chew or bite on treated tooth until you have it restored by your dentist
  • If the tooth is restored with temporary filling it is common to wear off in between appointments.

TOP 4 REASONS FOR PAIN AFTER ROOT CANAL TREATMENT:

  1. When a tooth is infected and requires root canal treatment ,the fibers that attaches the tooth to the bone are also irritated  and stretched because of infection around the tooth ,so will need some time to heal after root canal treatment ,this is temporary pain, it  takes a few days to heal as your body undergoes a natural healing process after root canal treatment.
  2. Often an infected tooth has been pushed slightly out of the socket by the infection accumulating at the root tips. The infected tooth is bearing more biting force than it can comfortably stand. Even if the tooth has had some reduction of its height by dentist, it may be painful for few days. Avoid intake of hard, crunchy or touch foods.
  3. Your tooth will no longer feel sensitive to hot or cold drink after root canal treatment ,but the gums around your teeth may be sensitive,if the gums around your teeth become badly infected then you may feel some pain after root canal treatment, in such case if you chew your teeth then it will transfer pressure onto infected gums around your teeth,  your dentist will provide you medication to reduce inflammation.
  4. You may also feel pain in your jaw for keeping it open for a extended period of time.

  1. All these symptoms are temporary and recovery will occur in a few days.

Anyhow pain starting after a few weeks after treatment needs dental opinion and intervention if required.
