Is missing tooth a real problem???

Most of the people know that the missing teeth will lead to inability to chew efficiently.
The problem not only stops over there it has a generalized effect all over the body. This blog explains the link between the missing teeth and digestion.

In general the Digestive system starts from the mouth and it ends with large intestine.

Digestive system
Thus mouth acts as an initiator of your food digestion.

In healthy diet the quantity of the fibrous food increases and maintains the  nutritional status by the presence of teeth which helps to chew fresh fruits ,green vegetables source of high fiber diet.

Foods with high fiber:
High fiber
The foods that are rich in fibers are seen mostly in vegetables and grains .
Further the  missing teeth will make a change in food intake from high fiber diet to  low fiber diet .

The consequence of the low fiber diet mainly  includes:

                                                                       Gastric distension
                                    Constipation
( retained stool discharge)                      ↑                   Unsatisfactory diet
                                                             ↖                                        ↗

                       ↑Blood sugar level
(Diabetes)   ←     LOW FIBER DIET         → ↑ Bad cholesterol

                                                             ↙                                        ↘
                                     Diverticulosis                                            Frequent nausea
                               (infection of intestine)               ↓

                                                                         Easy fatigue

To prevent the above outcomes the teeth that has been lost has to be replaced.

Replacement can be done by Dental implants.
One of the patient came to our clinic with  loss of molar which is important for chewing   .
Dental implants are placed to restore the functional teeth.

LASER in gum enlargement

In this blog our  discussion mainly focuses on one of the gum disease and its management.

One of our patient came to clinic with enlarged gums and extreme pain.

Clinical condition of the gums

On examination  the condition was diagnosed to be gum disease and the gums were found to be enlarged .

                                                             Gum enlargement reason:
                                                                                ↓
                                                           Due to local irritating factor
                                                                                ↓
                                                                    Deposits/tartar

On examination

Initially the gums respond in the form of change in color ,bleeding when the care has not taken to remove the factor the condition becomes severe.
Further  there will be collection of pus inside the gums makes it weaker.

TREATMENT PHASE:

The treatment plan was decided to remove the infected and enlarged gums and along with the cause during the first phase of the treatment using LASER for management.

The procedure that has been done using LASER called LANAP .
This does not require the flap  to be raised and also the placement of stitches which we place in conventional scalpel techniques.

The second phase includes bio-stimulation to enhance the healing of the gum tissues much more.

                               Before the treatment
Results 5 days after the treatment

This is the response of  the gums towards the LASER treatment on fifth day with no discomfort and pain to the patient.
